Today is Halloween and was the day I intended to surprise everyone with the release my hip-hop mixtape/project Behind The Yellow Line via Sampleface Records. I put in months and months of work into this thing… and it appears I have to put in some more and once again delay the project’s release.
Earlier this month, my laptop suffered a fatal error and in the process, I lost 90% of the files that I had backed up on it. In fairness, it was always on its last legs due to it’s age (roughly an eight-year-old machine) but as it was managing to tick over from day-to-day and I didn’t have enough money for a new one, I made do with what I had. It pays to be self-sufficient, right? This past weekend, I publicly stated on Twitter that I was “wrapping up” the project. In actuality, it was a two-part process: the first part was to recover what I had prior to my laptop’s death and then mix and master what remained. It didn’t go very well at all, as the project suffered more technical errors and what we managed to salvage didn’t sound good enough.
Therefore, it is with a heavy heart that I am once again forced to delay Behind The Yellow Line. It’s supremely upsetting because like every project/work I create, I put 100% of my being into it. As such, not being able to share something you’ve created - for whatever reason - when you intend to share it is a mammoth disappointment. I can only hope that those of you who were looking forward to procuring and then listening to the mixtape can remain patient with me until it has reached the level of quality that you come to expect from anything you listen to. I refuse to satisfy a deadline with something that I wouldn’t be proud of and I want to be able to deliver a truly quality project. It will come in time… but time is what I need.
I’m rolling with the punches and I’m hoping you’ll find the wait to be worth it in the end when Behind The Yellow Line is finally available for your listening pleasure.
