“When I was growing up, if I liked [a band], I listened to it — and I went to the shows. If I didn’t, I didn’t. It wasn’t like, ‘Oh, they don’t believe the same thing I do,’ […] People care too much about the fashion of it all. To me, a band’s either good or they ain’t, and that’s the only thing that should matter.”—Josh Scogin, lead vocalist of the incredible band The Chariot.
“We killed a lot of innocent civilians. To us, every civilian in Baghdad was a terrorist. ‘These FEDAYKEEN are now in civilian clothes’ - that makes everybody free game. But if they came within our perimeter, we lit ‘em up; when we would pull the body out, and when we would search the car, we would find nothing. This took place time and time again. No harm, no foul, that’s OK, don’t worry about it. Because this is a new TYPE of war, this is an eradication… I honestly feel we’re committing genocide over here. I don’t believe in killing civilians, and I’m not going to kill civilians for the United States Marine CORPS…”—Former staff sergeant and former Marine Jimmy Massey in an interview after his return from the Iraq War (a snippet used in the blistering track Ashes Of The Wake by Lamb Of God)
“Justin Bieber even asked if he could do the cypher. Everybody was worried that it might mess up the integrity of BET but I was like, ‘Long as he got a dope rhyme, let him spit.’ But, then we heard, ‘He wants Luda to write his rhyme.’ I was like, ‘Oh, no, no, no, no, no.’ If you ain’t writing your own rhyme, you can’t do it. So, Justin, you gotta take a backseat on that one. Write your own rhymes, honey. You gotta call him honey on that one.”—
“This isn’t about abolishing all corporations. It’s about limiting and balancing the influence of corporate interests in our politics.”—My friend Kelly McGuire summarizing the Occupy Wall Street protests perfectly.
“I think the three-game ban is a joke but nevertheless, I don’t think you need to make a decision just now. We are talking about it, but nobody is going to make a decision about it - there is still about six months until the summer time. I’m sure the manager (Capello) won’t make a decision until then. You can decide then on a lot of things - the form of other players, the group, your chances of getting through, Wayne’s form. So it might be better to leave the boy at home and get a good summer. I’m a Scotsman, so I hope he stays at home! I think everybody wants to pick out Wayne. There is no doubting that Wayne shouldn’t have done what he did. But I thought they (UEFA) would have near enough let it go. Wayne Rooney is one of the biggest players on the world stage - get him involved in the big games. If you want to have a big tournament, I think you want people like Wayne Rooney to be there. It wasn’t right, but I think the three games is a bit excessive.”—David Moyes (Everton manager) on Wayne Rooney’s three match ban. Trust a Scotsman to chat sensibly when all the boo boys and kneejerkers are kicking off.
“I pledge allegiance to the fair and balanced truth. Not the biased truth, not the liar’s truth, but the highest truth. I will not be deceived nor will I believe in the propaganda. I will not fall for the “okie-doke.” I am tuned in.”—excerpt from the Nas track Sly Fox
I’ve always wanted my own domain… and Wordpress has given me that much-desired platform. I’ve opened with a couple of poems… and that’s one page I’ve started. I’ll be expanding the site into different pages dedicated to Set Your Sights (my band), various other musical projects I’m involved with, written reviews on various media I encounter, and much, much more.
Does this mean that The Altered Realm is going down anytime soon? Nope. It’s still business as usual here but with a shift in direction in what kind of content will be featured on this particular site. That means more social commentary, personal entries, and sharing of random stuff from the Interwebz; less featuring of my poems, music, and various other creations I’m working on.
So… there it is. Remember the link, remember the name. :-)
“I want every kid to know I am not going to change who I really am to sell records. I mean, I absolutely hate shoving things down people’s throats, but hiding who you are is just as bad.”—Dallas Taylor (Lead vocalist of Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, formerly of UnderOATH)
