The Altered Realm

"Some men see things as they are and say why - I dream things that never were and say why not." ~ George Bernard Shaw

To me, music has the ability to create, destroy, emphasize and control emotion. I’m interested to hear your philosophy on music, and how it has affected you. I guess I should put it in question form. How has music shaped you as a person?

How has music shaped me as a person? *laughs* :-D

Out of all forms of artistic expression, music is the one that I am passionate about the most. Music has provided me sanctuary where other people and other creative exploits couldn’t. Music has opened doors to certain subject matter that most educational institutions refuse to teach. Music has helped me understand more about my own emotions in times of trial and tribulation, just by relating to persons lamentations on whatever track I just so happen to be listening to at the time. Music has given me joy and happiness beyond the reach of what words could express.

In short: I am music. Without that influence, I wouldn’t be anything you know me to be today.

If you had to pick someone to bring back to life to have a 5 minute conversation with, who would you pick?

Awesome question. :-) So awesome, in fact, I really had to think about it before answering.

After giving it some thought, I’d have one of my closest friends Dave Campbell brought back. The five minute conversation we’d have wouldn’t be a sombre one at all. We’d probably have a smoke, I’d have him kick a quick verse and then I’d ask him one question (knowing - full well - the answer, knowing STRAT…): “Are you satisfied with the legacy you left behind?”

Dave was a major influence on my creative abilities and an even bigger one on my outlook on life. The conversations we’ve had, the things we’ve bounced off the walls of each other’s grey matter were nothing short of astounding. Dave was one of the most brilliant minds that I’ve ever come across and I thank the Almighty every day for allowing me the opportunity to cross paths with that man. Though this word gets thrown around like an american football these days, he is and always will be - to me, at least - a legend.
